Moore and Kunz Record Double-Doubles; Volleyball Drops Weekend Finale to Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. - Kali Moore and Leoni Kunz each put up double-doubles, but the Stony Brook volleyball team was defeated by the Northeastern Huskies 3-2 on Saturday afternoon on the road. The loss dropped Stony Brook's record to 14-8 overall and 7-5 in CAA action.
 


 
The Seawolves were led by double-doubles from both Moore, who had 22 kills and 20 digs, and Kunz, who had 12 kills and 11 digs. Abby Campbell also added 12 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Julia Patsos chipped in for a season-high 27 digs to go with three blocks from Campbell.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
SET 1 | The Seawolves found themselves in an early deficit, dropping the first set, 25-22. Stony Brook went .100 hitting with 12 kills as Moore led the team with five kills in the opening frame.
 
SET 2 | Stony Brook tied the match at 1-1 following a 25-15 victory in the second set. The Seawolves led from the opening point to earn the victory then finished off the set with a 10-point lead, hitting .279 with 16 kills.
 
SET 3 | Stony Brook lost the third set, putting the Seawolves in a 2-1 hole. The Seawolves lost the first point and were unable to make a comeback as they hit .106 with 11 kills.
 
SET 4 | Stony Brook then responded to win the fourth set, 25-20, to force a fifth set. A solid performance on the attacking side led the Seawolves to victory in the set with a match-high 19 kills on .341 hitting. Moore dominated with nine kills as Kunz, Campbell, Ayanna Pierre Louis, and Quinn Anderson all had a hand in the Seawolves' attacking success.
 
SET 5 | Stony Brook was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but dropping the deciding set by a score of 15-9. The Seawolves hit a match-low -.074 collecting five kills on top of seven errors.
 
STATS AND NOTES
  • Stony Brook had four players in double figures in kills (Moore, Kunz, Campbell, and Pierre Louis).
  • Stony Brook had five players in double figures in digs (Patsos, Moore, Henry, Cigna, and Kunz).
  • Kali Moore registered her 30th career double-double with a match-high 22 kills and 20 digs. She tallied two assists and one ace in the loss.
  • Leoni Kunz recorded her 27th career double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. She added one block and one ace to her totals.
  • Stony Brook got a team-high 27 digs from Julia Patsos along with a match-high two aces.
  • Stony Brook attackers were helped by a match-high 52 assists from Torri Henry. She has dished out 50 or more assists in seven matches this season.

Stony Brook continues CAA play on the road as they travel to reigning conference champions, Delaware, next weekend. The Seawolves will face off against the Blue Hens on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3, both with first serve at 1 p.m.
