Seawolves Fall on the Road at George Mason to Close Out Marquette Challenge

FAIRFAX, Va. - Stony Brook University men's basketball was downed on the road at George Mason, 94-56, on Monday evening at EagleBank Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It started as a back-and-forth affair, with Stony Brook grabbing an early 8-6 advantage on a Ben Wight basket inside.
  • George Mason led by four after a Collin O'Connor free throw with 12:32 to play in the first half, but a quick 10-0 scoring run opened up a double-digit lead for the Patriots.
  • Jared Frey made it a single-digit deficit again with just over eight minutes to play before a four-minute scoring drought. George Mason built a 20-point advantage in the scoring column during that stretch.
  • The deficit grew as large as 21 points in the final minute of the half and Stony Brook entered the break trailing 46-27.
  • The Patriots maintained the sizable lead throughout the entirety of the second half, building a lead as large as 39 points and never seeing the Seawolves come within 20 points for the rest of the contest.
STATS AND NOTES

  • Wight finished in double-figures (10 points) for the second time this season. He shot 4-of-7 from the floor and added five rebounds, four of which were on the offensive glass.
  • Three other Stony Brook scorers finished with six points apiece: Collin O'Connor, Joe Octave and Nick Woodard.
  • The Seawolves were 5-of-26 on three-point attempts. George Mason connected on 11 trifectas, with Zach Anderson accounting for five makes from beyond the arc.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"It was a brutal schedule, with only 36 hours home in the last 9 days and it showed with tired legs tonight. We struggled to finish and had some opportunities with some open looks that we just didn't convert. We have a young team that will grow from playing these high-major opportunities," head coach Geno Ford said. "We are excited to get home for our home opener this Saturday."

UP NEXT
Stony Brook returns home to Long Island to host St. Joseph's LI in the home opener on Saturday, November 16. Tip-off is set for 6:31 p.m. at Stony Brook Arena.
