STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook University men's basketball head coach
Geno Ford announced the addition of Jonah Butler to the program for the 2025-26 season. Butler signed his National Letter of Intent to join Stony Brook on Tuesday during National Signing Day.
Butler comes to Long Island by way of Murray, Kentucky, where he plays scholastically at Calloway County High School. Butler also plays on the AAU circuit with Griffin Elite. He averaged a double-double during his junior season at Calloway County, averaging 17.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He set a Calloway County program record last season with 12 assists in a single game.
"Jonah is a do-it-all wing that really competes on both sides of the ball. He brings a level of skill, toughness, and competitiveness. We are excited about his versatility," Ford said. "On the offensive end he can really shoot and make plays for others. On the defensive end he can match up against multiple positions."
This past summer, Butler was named UA All Rise Honorable Mention at the Rise Basketball Circuit with Griffin Elite. He was also selected to participate in the NCAA College Basketball Academy in Rock Hill, South Carolina, playing with Team Grand Canyon.
"I couldn't wish for a better setting. The coaching staff and the team made me feel right at home during my visit," Butler said. "On the basketball side, the play style fits me very well and coach Ford lets his guys get after it."
