Snoddy Secures Double-Double, Seawolves Fall to Norfolk State

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook men's basketball team fell to Norfolk State, 77-66, on Sunday afternoon at Stony Brook Arena. Andre Snoddy registered a double-double and three others scored in double figures for the Seawolves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both sides started slow; the Spartans missed nine of their first field goal attempts, while the Seawolves connected on just two of their first 10 attempts over the first seven minutes of action.
  • The Seawolves grabbed an early lead at the 15:33 mark, but Norfolk State regained the advantage four minutes later and never trailed again.
  • Three pointers by Collin O'Connor and Joe Octave made it a one-possession game on two occasions down the stretch in the first half before Norfolk State extended the lead to eight points, 30-22, at the 4:03 mark.
  • The Spartans carried a seven-point lead, 34-27, into the intermission on Long Island.
  • Stony Brook conceded the first 10 points of the second half, falling into a 17-point hole. The Seawolves ended a 3:59 scoring drought to start the second half on a Jared Frey triple.
  • The Seawolves got as close as 11 points on a few occasions, but never came within single digits of the Spartans, who closed out the 11-point victory.
STATS AND NOTES
  • Snoddy's double-double was the first for a Seawolf this season. He notched the second double-double of his Stony Brook career. Snoddy's 13 points and 11 rebounds were both season highs.
  • Joe Octave tallied a team-high 17 points. Jared Frey added 12 points and Collin O'Connor chipped in with 10 points.
  • The Seawolves shot an efficient 17-20 (85%) from the free throw line.
  • Norfolk State shot 51.9% (28-54) from the field and out-rebounded Stony Brook 40-28.
  • The Spartans finished with a 46-20 edge in points in the paint.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"We are disappointed with the home loss, but I thought we took some steps forward from how we've played over the last few weeks. We had two bad segments where they got separation," head coach Geno Ford said. "Coming into today we have played the 26th hardest schedule in the country, so it's been tough sledding for an inexperienced team. We need a good week of practice and we need to continue improving."

UP NEXT

Stony Brook heads to Frisco, Texas to face Air Force in the inaugural Texas Legends Showcase on Saturday, December 7. The Seawolves and Falcons are set for a 3 pm (EST) tip-off at the Comerica Center.
