STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University men's track and field program competed at the Fastrack National Invite on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. A pair of freshmen shined for the Seawolves;
George Franks set two new school records, first in the 60-meter and then later in the 400-meter, while
Collin Gilstrap blazed the fastest mile by a freshman in school history.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Franks set new school records in the 60-meter (6.81) and the 400-meter (47.79) events. He placed fourth in the 60-meter and third in the 400-meter.
- Gilstrap nearly broke the four-minute barrier in the mile, narrowly winning the event with a time of 4:00.65. His time was the fastest by a freshman in program history.
- Evan Brennan took first place in the 3K, posting an 8:13.65 time.
- Shane Henderson (4:02.44) placed third in the mile and Carlos Santos (8:15.32) finished third in the 3K.
- Alexander Kanes finished sixth in the Long Jump with a mark of 7.00 meters.
- Nick Tardugno raced to an eighth-place finish in the 5K, crossing in 14:55.95.
- Five runners posted IC4A qualifying times:
- Gilstrap and Henderson in the mile.
- Steven Struk in the 3K (8:20.81).
- Franks in the 60-meter.
- Kanes in the Long Jump.

"George Franks was the star of the day; over the last few weeks he has grown in confidence and fitness and that is now being reflected in his performances," head coach
Andy Ronan noted. "Collin ran the fastest mile by a freshman ever in the program, getting so close to breaking the four-minute barrier for the event. Shane also produced a very good run in the mile. Evan pulled off a confidence-building win in the 3,000-meter."
