RICHMOND, Va. - Stony Brook's Alyssa Costello and Alicia Orosco were named to the 2024 CAA Softball Preseason Watch List, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Stony Brook softball was also selected to finish seventh in the CAA Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.

Costello accumulated a multitude of honors last season, including All-CAA First Team, NFCA Northeast All-Region First Team and SUNY Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. Costello hit .401 across 52 games during her sophomore campaign, racking up 66 hits, the fourth-most in a single season in program history. Her .401 batting average was good for sixth best in a single season in Stony Brook history and was tops in the CAA. Costello helped the Seawolves to conference tournament victories over the No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 seeds in the CAA Tournament, earning All-Tournament Team honors. She picked up 12 hits during six CAA Tournament games, shattering the previous record and cementing herself atop the record books in the team's first season as a member of the league. Costello ended the season on a 24-game hitting streak, the longest such active streak among CAA players.

In 2023, Orosco was one of two Seawolves to start all 56 games, posting career-best marks in batting average, hits, runs batted in, runs, doubles and on-base percentage. Her 66 hits matched Costello for the team lead and the fourth-most in a single season in program history and her nine stolen bases were a team high. Orosco led the CAA in at-bats, tied for third in hits and finished eighth in runs scored. She wrapped up her season by collecting a hit in all six of Stony Brook's CAA Tournament contests, ending her junior season with a 13-game hitting streak.

Entering year two in the CAA, Megan Bryant's Seawolves were selected to finish seventh. Stony Brook finished the 2023 season at 29-27 overall and 10-13 in CAA play, highlighted by a non-conference victory over No. 23 Mississippi State and four upset victories in the CAA Championship as part of a magical run to the semifinals in the program's first season as a member of the CAA.

Costello, Orosco and the Seawolves open the 2024 campaign on the road at the Felsberg Invitational, hosted by Florida International University on February 9-11. Stony Brook faces Southeast Missouri and Ohio State on Friday, Feb. 9, followed by FIU on Saturday, Feb. 10. After reseeding, the Seawolves will play one more contest on Saturday, followed by a final game on Sunday, Feb. 11 against still to be determined opponents.
