STONY BROOK, N.Y. – On Saturday, September 13, the Stony Brook softball team once again takes the field in honor of Danni Kemp as the Seawolves head to Milford, Connecticut to host the Fifth Annual Danni Kemp Memorial Tournament.
The tournament will take place at Danielle Kemp Memorial Field at Foran High School, Danni's alma mater.
A three-sport athlete while at Foran, Danni eventually committed to Stony Brook and was a member of the softball team from 2016-17. On March 10, 2017, she passed away after a fierce and courageous battle of an inoperable brain tumor known as DIPG. During the spring of 2020, Foran High School announced that it was dedicating its newly renovated softball field in the memory of Danni. Since 2021, Stony Brook, Sacred Heart, Fairfield, and the community of Milford have come together on the field every September to honor Danni.
This year's tournament begins at 11:00 am on Saturday as Sacred Heart and Fairfield face each other in the opening game. Then, following the conclusion of the first game, there will be a ceremony on the field honoring Danni at 12:45 pm.
After the ceremony, the Seawolves take the field for the first time when they face the Pioneers at 1:00 pm. Finally, at 3:00 pm, Stony Brook will close out the day with its second game of the afternoon against the Stags.
