Stony Brook came out the gate hot in the third with a goal from Will Button just 34 seconds into play. Fairfield immediately answered with three straight goals to even things up at 7-7. The Seawolves regained the lead less than a minute later following a goal from Dougherty, but both teams traded goals to end the third tied at nine apiece.
