GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Stony Brook University softball team defeated North Carolina A&T, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. Alyssa Costello hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the top of the seventh and Ashton Melaas closed the door to complete a come-from-behind victory for the Seawolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Melaas picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Stony Brook. She went two shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out four.
- The Seawolves got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Stony Brook got a run-scoring single from Brooke Dye, scoring Julianna Sanzone from third base.
- The Aggies then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Seawolves got back on the board in the sixth. Stony Brook scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Sanzone, which evened the score at 2-2.
- N.C. A&T broke that tie and grabbed a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh, when Stony Brook grabbed the advantage at 4-3. The Seawolves added two to their tally on Costello's two-run homer to right. Madelyn Stepski started the seventh with a pinch-hit single, scoring on Costello's round-tripper.

- Stony Brook's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed two runs across.
- The Seawolves out-hit the Aggies at a 10-5 clip.
- Costello led the Seawolves at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
- Kyra McFarland and Sanzone both tallied a pair of hits.
- Gabrielle Maday started, allowing three runs across five innings of work. She scattered five hits and struck out two.
- Melaas' victory was her ninth of the season. She has allowed three runs over her last 10 appearances.
