STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- In its first meet of 2025, the Stony Brook women's track and field team had a strong showing at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invite, recording seven top-eight finishes. The day's standout moments came in the 1,000-meter and 3,000-meter races, where Shaylen Goslar claimed first place in the 1,000-meter, and Amelie Guzman took first in the 3,000-meter.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Goslar outpaced 13 other runners to take first in the 1,000-meter, finishing at 3:02.23. Her impressive clocking beat the second-place runner by less than a second, giving her the first individual race win of her collegiate career.
  • Guzman raced to a first-place finish in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 9:48.28, which was good enough to set a new personal best in the event.
  • Enyero Omokeni placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.26, becoming one of five total racers in a field of 54 and finishing the dash in under a minute.
  • Danielle Cirrito ran to a strong second-place finish in the mile run with a clocking of 5:08.30.
  • Jade Pazmino finished sixth in the 1,000-meter race, finishing at 3:19.41.
  • Brienna Ahmetaj earned a seventh-place finish in the high jump (1.55m).
  • Miranda Gatto took eight in the 3,000-meter, finishing at 10:25.96.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
First meet of 2025 under our belt, and it was an opportunity for both teams to shake off the Holidays and get the season underway," head coach Andy Ronan said. "On the women's side, Amelie impressed in the 3,000m, and Danielle, Shaylen, and Enyero produced nice early-season runs in the mile, 1,000m, and 400m, respectively. So, we got some cobwebs off. Now, we need to focus on getting better fitness and competition-wise week by week."

The Seawolves continue the indoor portion of its schedule next Friday when it competes at the Ramapo College Invitational.
