STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook men's basketball team announced it is bringing back one of its most storied players on Friday as former All-CAA selection Tyler Stephenson-Moore returns to his alma mater as its new Director of Basketball Operations. Stephenson-Moore played his full five-year career at Stony Brook from 2019-24.

Following his graduation in 2024, Stephenson-Moore played professionally overseas in Germany's Bundesliga ProA with Phoenix Hagen. Before returning to Long Island, he was signed with BC Lulea in Sweden's Basketligan.

"We are excited to have Tyler back," stated head coach Geno Ford. "He is a top five player in the history of the program but an even better person and mentor for our players. We are looking forward to him working with our guys this season as he rehabs and works on his professional playing career resuming."

Stephenson-Moore had one of the most prolific careers by a Seawolf ever, retiring with the 11th most points in program history and fifth most in the Division I era with 1,359 career points. He also holds the all-time program record for games played with 140, as well as ranking top 10 in several categories including free throw percentage (.818), three-point percentage (.435), and three-pointers made (208).

The Jamaica, N.Y. native began his Stony Brook career the same year Geno Ford took over as head coach in the 2019-20 season. He was with the team as it transitioned from the America East to the CAA in 2022-23 and made its eventual CAA Championship run in 2023-24. That season, Stephenson-Moore earned his second All-CAA nod in addition to making the NABC All-District Second Team and All-Met Third Team after leading the Seawolves in nearly every offensive category and ranking seventh in the NCAA with a .435 three-point percentage.

Overall, in five seasons at Stony Brook, Stephenson-Moore led the Seawolves to 78 wins, including a pair of 20-win campaigns in 2019-20 and 2023-24.

Prior to playing at Stony Brook, Stephenson-Moore was a standout high school player at Long Island Lutheran, earning Newsday First Team All-Long Island honors and winning the 2019 AA New York Federation Championship.

Stephenson-Moore earned his bachelor's degree in business from Stony Brook in 2023, followed by his MBA in 2024.
