Women’s Basketball Falters in Second Half, Drops Road Contest at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. — Stony Brook women's basketball fell to Fordham, 58-52, on Wednesday evening at Rose Hill Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook started out the scoring by going on a 7-0 run to take an early lead with 5:34 left in the first quarter. The Seawolves then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 15-8 advantage. Stony Brook did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 14 of its 15 points close to the basket.

Fordham fought back to tie the game at 19-19 before Stony Brook went on a 7-0 run after the midway point of the second stanza, highlighted by a bucket from Johanna Potter to give the Seawolves a 26-19 advantage. The Rams cut into that lead, but the Seawolves still claimed an advantage, 28-25, heading into halftime. Stony Brook knocked down a pair of three-point shots to account for six of its 13 points in the second frame.

Stony Brook then lost its advantage in the third quarter and the Rams never relinquished the lead. Fordham limited Stony Brook to 2-of-11 (18.2%) shooting in the quarter, grabbing the lead for good at the 5:59 mark in the third. Fordham's defense continued to stifle Stony Brook in the second half. The Seawolves could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 58-52. Stony Brook made just four baskets in the second half. Despite Stony Brook's perfect 10-for-10 mark from the line, Fordham shot nearly 50 percent in the fourth and was 8-of-12 at the charity stripe to ice the game.
