Stony Brook Defeated by UNCW in Regular Season Finale

WILMINGTON, N.C. - After clinching a spot in the CAA Tournament last night, the Stony Brook volleyball team ended the 2025 regular season with a loss on Saturday as the team came up short against UNCW 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 22-25). The Seawolves will conclude the regular season with an overall record of 11-14 and a conference record of 7-9.

The Seawolves were led by a double-double from Kali Moore, who, in her final career regular season match, registered 17 kills and 15 digs on the day. Quinn Anderson also added 14 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Madison Cigna chipped in for with 22 digs to go with six blocks from Ayanna Pierre Louis.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Seawolves opened up an early 1-0 lead, winning the first set 25-21. Stony Brook never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage halfway through at 16-15 when the team went on a 5-0 run with kills from Anderson and Mercedes Motton to make it 18-15. After the Seahawks managed to tie it up at 18-18, the Seawolves then went on a 4-0 run to pull ahead for good.

SET 2 | Stony Brook then lost set two 25-23, evening things at a set each. The Seawolves fell in a back-and-forth set that featured four lead changes and was tied six times. Neither team led by more than three points along the way. Moore racked up seven kills in the set, giving the team the lead several times and getting them within one late at 23-22. UNCW, though, was just able to hang on for the win.

SET 3 | A set-three loss put Stony Brook behind 2-1 as the Seawolves fell 25-19. Things were deadlocked at 14-14 at the midway point as Moore tallied six more kills, along with three from Anderson. Unfortunately, the Seahawks broke the stalemate by scoring eight of the next nine to take a 22-15 lead which held till the end of the set.

SET 4 | Stony Brook lost the fourth set and the match, falling 25-22. The Seawolves rallied from an eight-point hole at 20-12 by scoring seven of the next nine to pull within two at 24-22, but it was just a hair too late as UNCW hled on to close out the match.

» Moore's double-double is her 12th of the season. She also finishes the regular season with 21 double-digit kill performances.
» Anderson has totaled 16 matches with 10+ kills this year.
» Stony Brook attackers were helped by a team-high 32 assists from Zamora.
» Pierre Louis ends the regular season with her eighth match with at least five blocks.

With the regular season complete, the No. 6 seeded Seawolves will prepare for the CAA Tournament which begins on Thursday, November 20 in Towson, Maryland.
