No. 6 Stony Brook Falls to No. 2 Campbell in CAA Semifinal

TOWSON, Md. - The Stony Brook volleyball team was unable to pull off another upset on Friday as its season officially came to an end in the CAA Tournament Semifinals with a nail-biting 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 9-15) loss to No. 2 Campbell.

In the final game of her career, Kali Moore had one of her best games ever, registering 27 kills and 14 digs, giving her 52 kills, 29 digs, and two double-doubles. Also having big games were Quinn Anderson with 13 kills and five blocks and Madison Cigna 25 digs.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Seawolves found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-22. Stony Brook trailed from the outset and fell behind by as many as five points. Thanks to six kills from Moore in the opening frame, the Seawolves did eventually pull within one at 22-21, but that proved to be as close as it would get.

SET 2 | Stony Brook responded to pick up a 25-20 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Seawolves grabbed the lead for good early on after kills from Ava Zamora and Moore made it 7-6. After that, the Camels would commit 10 attack and service errors in the set to hand Stony Brook a sizable 24-17 lead, before Moore finished things off with her sixth kill of the set.

SET 3 | Stony Brook grabbed another win in the third set to make it a 2-1 match after holding on for the 25-20 victory. Campbell's attacking issues persisted as they made eight more errors in addition to having six of their attempts blocked. Anderson and Mopelola Ojo each picked up three total blocks, including the set winner.

SET 4 | Stony Brook could not keep the win streak going, as the Camels forced a fifth set after coming back to take the fourth set 25-21. After falling behind early at 8-4, the Seawolves rallied back to tie it at 8-8, before taking a 12-9 lead thanks to another three kills from Moore. Campbell, though, would eventually retake control of the set and go up 18-16 before holding off a late Stony Brook push to send it to the fifth.

SET 5 | In the fifth and final set, the Seawolves fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way. Zamora, Carey-Jean Block, and Moore all picked up early kills to keep things close at 6-5. Despite two more kills from Moore, however, the Seawolves were unable to stop the Camels as they went on to take a five-point lead and ultimately take the set 15-9.
