CHICAGO, Ill. – Stony Brook Hall of Famer and World Series Champion Travis Jankowski '12 secured a spot on the Chicago White Sox 2025 Opening Day roster, as announced by the club this afternoon.
Jankowski, coming off his 10th MLB season and second with the Texas Rangers, played in 104 games last season. The speedster tallied 38 hits, including six extra base-hits and also stole 11 bases for the Rangers.
Helping the Rangers to a World Series title in 2023, the former Seawolf put together a career-best campaign, slashing .263/.357/.332 with a home run, 30 RBI, a .689 OPS and a 1.4 WAR. He was a force on the basepaths, successfully swiping 19 of 20 stolen base attempts. He also showcased elite defense with a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage.
During Texas' championship run, Jankowski made history for Stony Brook baseball, becoming the first player from the program to appear in an American League Championship Series game on Oct. 16, 2023, against the Astros. A week later, he became the first Seawolf to record a hit in the ALCS with a single in Game 7 on Oct. 23.
After the Rangers eliminated Houston to advance to the World Series, Jankowski etched his name into the record books once again, becoming the first Stony Brook alumni to play in the Fall Classic when he took the field in right field during Game 3.
The Lancaster, Pa., native earned a start in Game 4, batting ninth and playing right field. He delivered in the moment, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, helping Texas to an 11-7 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Over the course of his professional career, Jankowski has played in 681 games, accumulating over 1,500 at-bats for six different MLB organizations (Padres, Reds, Phillies, Mets, Mariners and Rangers). He has 355 hits, 212 runs scored, 102 stolen bases and 96 RBI.
A member of the Stony Brook Athletics Hall of Fame, Jankowski was named the 2012 ABCA/Rawlings National Co-Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American by four different outlets. During Stony Brook's historic 2012 run to Omaha, he led the NCAA in hits, runs scored and triples. He remains the only player in program history to be recognized as the National Player of the Year after being selected 44th overall in the first round of the MLB Draft.
Jankowski is one of five Seawolves to reach the Major Leagues, joining Daniel Zamora, Nick Tropeano, Tom Koehler and Joe Nathan.
The White Sox kick off their season today, hosting the Los Angeles Angels at 4:10 p.m. on the south side of Chicago.
