BRONX, N.Y. — Stony Brook softball fell in a mid-week contest at Fordham, 7-4, at Bahoshy Field on Wednesday.
Naiah Ackerman and
Emily Reinstein blasted homers as Stony Brook's late push came up short.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fordham got to Stony Brook starter Gabrielle Maday for a pair of runs in the first frame. The Rams first four hitters reached safely, pushing two runs across on a single. Maday worked to escape the inning by retiring the next three batters to strand runners on first and second.
- Stony Brook went down in order in both the first and second innings, falling behind even further in the bottom of the second.
- The Rams scored four runs on five hits in the second frame. Fordham led 6-0 after the four-run frame.
- Reinstein led off the third inning with a solo shot, getting a run back.
- Maddie Male entered in relief of Maday to start the third inning, tossing a scoreless inning despite a two-out single.
- Fordham tacked on a seventh run on a leadoff homer in the fourth inning. Male settled in and again worked around a two-out hit to limit the damage.
- Despite a hit in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, Stony Brook's offense could not push a run across to cut into Fordham's lead.
- Down to their final out, the Seawolves rallied in the seventh. Reinstein doubled, followed by an Emma Scheitinger single. Both came around to score on an Ackerman homer. Kyra McFarland followed with a single, but the Rams finally shut the door on Stony Brook's late rally.
STATS AND NOTES
- Reinstein's homer was her first of the 2025 season.
