STONY BROOK, N.Y. – For the second time this season, Avery Hines of the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team has earned IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon. The national recognition comes after the senior was tabbed CAA Defensive Player of the Year, receiving seven weekly honors this season.
 
Hines continued to anchor a strong defensive effort as the Seawolves won their 11^th consecutive conference title. She collected a team-high four caused turnovers to set a new Stony Brook program record for career caused turnovers with 126 and counting. She added a pair of ground balls, while holding Elon to just four goals in the CAA semifinals.
 
Hines then registered six caused turnovers and three ground balls to assist in the 12-10 CAA Championship victory over No. 23 Drexel. She leads the CAA in caused turnovers (3.53) and ground balls (2.68) per game, while ranking second in the nation in caused turnovers per game.
 
Hines and the Stony Brook squad are back in action for the NCAA Tournament First Round on Friday, May 9 at 4 p.m. as they go head-to-head with No. 17 Loyola Maryland, hosted by No. 3 Boston College. The Seawolves are 0-3 in the all-time series against the Greyhounds. Most recently, a 9-8 loss in the 2023 NCAA Tournament Second Round.
