STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Stony Brook women's lacrosse head coach
Joe Spallina announced the addition of
Cassidy Spilis to the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Spilis will serve as the defensive coordinator and draw coach for the Seawolves.

As someone from the east coast - the grit, fight and work ethic this program exemplifies, among many other qualities, are things that I connected with immediately. I want to thank coach Spallina for the opportunity to join this elite group - I have no doubt that working alongside him, Sydney, and the rest of our staff will be an enriching experience all around," Spilis said. "This is a program that breeds high level competitors and I cannot wait to get to work this fall and continue pushing for excellence! Go Seawolves!"
Spilis comes to Stony Brook after a two-year stint on staff with the University of Southern California. While at USC, she had a hand in coaching both the offensive and defensive units, while also specializing at the draw. Spilis helped the Trojans to an 18-16 overall record in their first two seasons as a member of the Big Ten conference.
"We are really excited to add a coach of Cassidy's caliber," Spallina said. "Her competitive fire as a player followed her onto the sidelines as someone who understands the DNA of our program and will really elevate our players to the next level."
Prior to USC, Spilis starred at Rutgers as a student-athlete. A three-time IWLCA All-American (2021, 2022, 2024) and a two-time unanimous Big Ten Midfielder of the Year (2022, 2024), Spilis' accolades also include four All-America selections by Inside Lacrosse (2021-24) and three by USA Lacrosse Magazine (2022-24).
Spilis was a three-time team captain for the Scarlet Knights (2022-24) and was a four-time All-Big Ten First Team selection, the Big Ten All-Tournament Team honoree, and the Big Ten All-Academic Team member. In 2024, she received the Big Ten's Medal of Honor. She was also a four-time IWLCA All-Region team member and a four-time nominee to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, landing on the top 25 list twice (2022, 2024).
Spilis completed her collegiate career as Rutgers' all-time career leader in points (281), goals (266) and draw controls (313). In her final season, she broke her own record to set the Knights' single-season goal record at 74 (2024).
Following her collegiate career, Spilis was selected 13th overall in the AU Pro Lacrosse Draft and trained with the U.S. Women's Sixes National Team. She is currently competing in the inaugural summer season for the professional Women's Lacrosse League (WLL) with the Maryland Charm.
