PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Former Seawolf Ally Kennedy and Assistant Coach Cassidy Spilis helped the Maryland Charm make history on Saturday, winning the inaugural Women's Lacrosse League championship with a 16-13 win over the California Palms.

Kennedy delivered a two-goal performance in the historic championship victory, including a pivotal goal with just over a minute remaining in the fourth quarter that helped seal the Charm's first WLL title.

The former Stony Brook standout also scored the go-ahead goal in the third quarter after California had erased Maryland's two-goal halftime advantage and tied the game at 9-9.

Spilis also played a key role in the Charm's championship performance, recording three goals on the afternoon. She opened her scoring account with a power-play goal in the first quarter before adding another in the first and one more in the second quarter, completing her hat trick and helping Maryland build a 9-7 halftime lead.

Maryland's defense held California to a season-low 13 goals, while goalkeeper Caylee Waters made eight saves in the first half and Jenika Cuocco added nine saves after halftime. Sydni Black led the Charm offensively with four goals and was named the game's MVP.

With Saturday's victory, Kennedy and Spilis became part of WLL history as members of the first team to capture the league's championship.
