STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Stony Brook baseball redshirt junior Nico Azpilcueta earned 2025 First Team All-Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Tuesday afternoon.
Azpilcueta was one of just 11 players from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) selected to the prestigious list and becomes the first Seawolf to receive ABCA All-Region recognition since Evan Giordano in 2021. The honor marks his second major postseason accolade, following his First Team All-CAA selection on May 20.
The designated hitter made an immediate impact in his debut season on Long Island. Azpilcueta finished the year batting .320 (62-for-194) with 20 home runs, 61 RBIs, 14 doubles, 49 runs scored, and 22 walks. His 20 home runs led the CAA and rank as the second-most in Stony Brook's Division I era. His 61 RBIs were second in the league and stand as the third-most in a single season in program history. Azpilcueta also ranked among the top three in the CAA in slugging percentage (.711), OPS (1.101), and sacrifice flies (7).
He opened the season by reaching base in each of his first 39 games and led the team with 22 multi-RBI performances. Nationally, he ranked 11th in the NCAA in home runs at the conclusion of the regular season. Azpilcueta homered in four of five games from March 25 to April 4 and went deep in all three games of the Towson series (May 2–4). He also recorded multi-homer games in CAA series against Delaware, Northeastern, Campbell, and Monmouth. Over the season, he collected 18 multi-hit games, including three three-hit efforts.
