Seawolves Go the Distance in Five-Set Win Over Siena

STONY BROOK, NY - The Stony Brook volleyball team remains perfect in 2025 as it picked up win number two in a five-set marathon against Siena on Saturday at home at Pritchard Gymnasium.

The Seawolves were led by a standout performance from rookie Ava Zamora who, in her second career game, fell one kill short of a triple-double as she recorded 50 assists and 17 digs. Also with a double-double was Kali Moore, who registered 21 kills and 12 digs on the day. Aajaylah Zeno also added 14 kills to help the attack.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Seawolves won the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-14. Stony Brook led by 12 points at 20-8 before finishing off the set, totaling 17 kills in the set. Stony Brook also supplemented their offense with three aces courtesy of Madison Cigna, Ayanna Pierre Louis, and Zamora.

SET 2 | Stony Brook and Siena went back-and-forth all throughout set two as the lead changed six times before the Saints took control right at the very end to take it 27-25 and even the match 1-1. Back-to-back kills from Moore helped Stony Brook take a 13-8 lead early on, only for Siena to rally back and go up 19-16 after a 6-0 run. Eventually, after another kill from Zamora and a block by Mercedes Motton, the Seawolves went back in front 23-22, only for the Saints to once again come back and tie it at 25-25 before ultimately taking the set.

SET 3 | Stony Brook fought back following the second-set loss to grab set three and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Seawolves grabbed control of the set early when the score was 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-14. Liv Hertzog saw her first action of the 2025 campaign towards the end of the set, going two-for-two on kill attempts to help grow the lead to 23-11, the biggest of the day for Stony Brook.

SET 4 | Stony Brook couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Saints forced a fifth set with a 25-13 victory. The Seawolves lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set.

SET 5 | The final set of the day was another back-and-forth battle, as the Seawolves took control early and built an 8-2 lead. The Saints, however, took seven of the next 10 points to cut the lead to 11-9. Fortunately, Moore was able to shift momentum back in Stony Brook's favor as she crossed 20 kills on the day and led the Seawolves to a 15-10 victory.
