RICHMOND, Va. – After a standout performance in a dominant win over Fordham, graduate quarterback Chris Zellous has been named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Zellous becomes the first Stony Brook player to earn the weekly offensive honor since October 21, 2024, when quarterback Tyler Knoop received the recognition.

In just his third start for the Seawolves, Zellous put on a show, accounting for 313 total yards and four touchdowns in Stony Brook's 41-18 victory at LaValle Stadium on Saturday. The graduate student was nearly flawless through the air, completing 21-of-28 passes (75%) for a career-best 260 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 53 yards and a rushing touchdown on the ground, marking his second game in three starts with at-least 50 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. 

Zellous' performance was historic for the program. He became the first Seawolves quarterback since Kyle Negron on Nov. 16, 2013 to record at-least three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in the same game. Also, his 260 passing yards marked the most by a Stony Brook quarterback since Tyler Knoop's breakout game against Monmouth on November 23, 2024. 

Additionally, the effort marked Zellous' first career three-touchdown passing game and his second career game with four total touchdowns. His previous four-touchdown outing came on September 2, 2023, while playing for Hampton against Grambling. He also shattered his personal best for passing yards, surpassing the 256-yard mark he set with Hampton against Richmond on September 30, 2023.

So far this season, Zellous is averaging 139.3 passing yards and 44.3 rushing yards per game. He leads the team with two rushing touchdowns and has thrown three touchdowns through the air, compiling a 125.42 quarterback rating.

The Seawolves will look to keep the momentum going as they hit the road once again next weekend, traveling to Missouri to take on Lindenwood University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (ET), with the game streaming live on ESPN+.
