Stony Brook Comes Up Short vs. Big Ten Foe Washington

DALLAS, Texas - Facing their second straight opponent who received votes in the AVCA preseason poll, the Stony Brook volleyball team was bested in three sets (12-25, 6-25, 17-25) today by Big Ten powerhouse Washington in day two of the DoubleTree Invitational hosted by SMU.

The non-conference loss drops Stony Brook to 3-2 on the season.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Seawolves kept it close through the early stages of the set, tying things up three times and later trailing the Huskies by just three points at 9-6. Washington soon pulled away, however, scoring five straight to take a 14-6 lead en route to a 25-12 win. Aajaylah Zeno would pick up four kills in the set to lead the Seawolves,

SET 2 | Stony Brook then dropped set two 25-6 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Seawolves lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set. Kali Moore recorded Stony Brook's first ace of the match during the set.

SET 3 | Despite beginning set three in a 5-0 hole, Stony Brook nearly tied things up multiple times as four Washington errors got the Seawolves within two at 7-5. Kills from Moore and Mercedes Motton kept it a two-point game at 9-7, but this proved to be as close as Stony Brook would get as the Huskies once again began to pull away in the middle of the set before securing the sweep with a 25-17 victory.
