Seawolves Drop Defensive Battle To Drexel On The Road

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Stony Brook women's basketball had its five-game win streak snapped on Friday night in Philadelphia, as the Seawolves dropped a defensive slugfest 49-41 to Drexel.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel opened the game strong, quickly establishing a 10-0 lead with 6:18 remaining in the opening quarter. Despite its slow start, Stony Brook ended the quarter on a high note with a 5-0 run with 54 seconds left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Alex Brown, to narrow its deficit to 16-12 heading into the second.

Defense reigned supreme in the second quarter, as neither team struggled to generate much of anything on the offensive end, resulting in the Dragons taking a 25-14 lead into the half.

Drexel continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 33-21 advantage before Stony Brook went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Frost, to trim its deficit to 33-27 with 2:57 to go in the third. Drexel countered and stretched its lead to 38-29 heading into the fourth.

The Dragons kept widening their lead early in the fourth, constructing a 42-31 advantage before Stony Brook went on a 5-0 run, finished off by a Berete three, to shrink the deficit to 42-36 with 5:48 to go in the contest. Drexel answered by clutch stops and makes on the offensive end, going on to secure the 49-41 victory on its homecourt.
