Seawolves Stay Hot, Blank George Mason for Fourth Straight Win

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Stony Brook men's soccer team extended its winning streak to four matches with a 2-0 shutout victory over George Mason Sunday evening. Behind second-half goals from senior Finlay Oliver and Olsen Aluc, the Seawolves improved to 6-1-5 overall and 2-1-2 in conference play.

After a scoreless opening half, Oliver broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, converting a penalty kick to give Stony Brook a 1-0 advantage. Aluc doubled the lead just over 10 minutes later, finding the back of the net in the 74th minute to secure the Seawolves fourth consecutive victory.
Stony Brook wasted little time creating offensive opportunities, as Kristoffer Aarflot registered the first shot on goal just over two minutes into the contest. Aluc followed with an opportunity in the 17th minute, but George Mason goalkeeper made the stop to keep the match scoreless.

The Seawolves continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the opening half, with Alex Fleury recording two shots on goal in the first 21 minutes. Stony Brook held a 7-6 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks through the first 45 minutes, but neither side was able to break through before halftime.

George Mason came out aggressively in the second half, testing Stony Brook goalkeeper Heidar Hermannsson in the 55th minute. Hermannsson turned away a shot from Jesus to preserve the scoreless tie as the Patriots looked to take control of the contest.

The Seawolves broke through in the 63rd minute off a George Mason foul that resulted in a penalty kick. Oliver stepped up to the spot and converted, giving Stony Brook the 1-0 lead.

George Mason nearly found the equalizer in the 73rd minute when Balkey fired a shot off the crossbar. However, Stony Brook responded less than two minutes later as Aluc found the back of the net in the 74th minute, extending the Seawolves' advantage to 2-0.

The Patriots continued to search for an answer down the stretch, but Stony Brook's defense held firm to preserve the shutout. Hermannsson finished with two saves across 90 minutes, helping the Seawolves secure their fourth straight victory and improve to 6-1-5 on the season.

Stony Brook Men's Soccer is back home October 14, for a matchup against Farmingdale State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
