SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Stony Brook's four-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday as they fell 4-2 at Seton Hall to open their six-game road trip.
How It Happened
- The Seawolves had a chance to get on the board early in the first after loading the bases with no outs, only for the next three batters to pop up and leave empty handed. The Pirates also had a major scoring chance in the bottom of the first with three hits to lead things off, but they would come away with just a single run on a sac fly as Jayci Finch successfully limited the damage.
- Errors in the third and fourth innings allowed the Pirates to plate three more runs despite recording just one hit across both frames.
- After recording just one hit over the prior three innings, the Seawolves began the top of the fifth with back-to-back singles from Naiah Ackerman and Marissa Thalassinos. A walk to Mia Vannelli would load the bases for Rachael Brown who promptly drove in Ackerman with a sac fly to break the shutout.
- Stony Brook tacked on another run the very next inning when Ella Hayes ripped a two-out double down the left field line to cut the deficit down to 4-2. The Seawolves would not get any closer than this, however, as they went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Stats and Notes
- Out of the six runs scored today between both teams, only one was scored on a hit (Hayes' double).
- Ashlyn Burgess' 11-game hitting streak came to an end today after recording a hit in every game since March 14 vs. Hampton.
