FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - For the second day in a row, Stony Brook and Hofstra were locked in a tense pitchers duel that ultimately culminated in a 2-1 loss for the Seawolves in game two of the series.
How It Happened
- The Seawolves struck first in the top of the second on a long solo home run to straightaway center off the bat of Emma Scheitinger.
- On the mound for Stony Brook was Aubrey Jepson, who had the edge over Hofstra's starter Emma Falen through the first four innings, tossing four shutout frames against the Pride.
- After escaping a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth, Jepson allowed the first two batters to reach base in the fifth. Though she got the next two batters to fly out and strikeout, the Pride was able to cash in on two runs with a single up the middle. With two still on, Jepson managed to limit the damage in the fifth with her sixth strikeout of the afternoon.
- The Seawolves offense threatened to regain the lead in the top of the seventh after putting a runner in scoring position with one out. However, Falen would retire the final two batters of the game to seal a 2-1 win for The Pride.
Stats and Notes
- Jepson recorded 6 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched, giving her 31 strikeouts on the year and lowering her ERA to 3.50.
- Scheitinger's home run was her first of the season the team's second.
