FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - For the third game in a row, Stony Brook and Hofstra were caught up in a heated pitchers duel which culminated in a 2-1 loss for the Seawolves in Sunday's series finale.
How It Happened
- The game one starters, Jayci Finch and Madison Steppe, once again stepped into the circle and limited the opposing offenses. Hofstra was able to tag Finch for a run in the bottom of the first with a two-out rally, but the veteran bounced back with a 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts in the second.Â
- After allowing another two-out run in the bottom of the third, Finch settled in and allowed just one more hit the rest of the game.Â
- Meanwhile, the Seawolves were no-hit through the first 4.1 innings, until Malorie Hill connected on one and sent it over the wall in dead center for her first career home and to cut the lead down to 2-1. This proved to be Stony Brook's only run and only hit of the afternoon, though, as the next eight Seawolves were retired in order.
Stats and Notes
- In two starts against Hofstra this week, Finch pitched 12 innings, allowed four runs, and struck out nine, all while lowering her ERA to 2.65.
- Hill's home run was the third of the year for the Stony Brook.
