HAMPTON, Va. — Stony Brook men's lacrosse closed the regular season with a 28-7 victory at Hampton on Friday afternoon. Despite lightning delays throughout, the Seawolves managed to match a program record with 28 goals and will head into the CAA Championship as the No. 3 seed.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook scored nine times in the opening frame, highlighted by seven different goal scorers. The Seawolves scored three times in the final 55 seconds, opening up a 9-2 advantage after the opening 15 minutes of action in Virginia. The run continued through the second quarter, with Stony Brook's 10th unanswered score making it 13-2 in favor of the Seawolves with 11 minutes remaining in the half. Hampton scored to end Stony Brook's run, but the Seawolves responded with three straight before the first weather delay of the afternoon.
After a lengthy break, Stony Brook scored once more in the final two-plus minutes of the first half, taking a 17-4 advantage into the shortened intermission at Armstrong Stadium. Hampton opened the second half with a goal, but the Seawolves opened up a 21-5 advantage before the teams cleared the field for a second weather delay due to lightning in the area.
Neither side scored in the waning moments of the third period following the resumption of play after another lengthy delay. With a running clock in play, Stony Brook added seven more tallies to the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, leaving Hampton with a 28-7 victory in the regular season finale.
STATS AND NOTES
- 15 different Seawolves found the back of the net in the contest, led by Carson Boyle's career-high five goals.
- Seven other Seawolves registered multiple goals, including hat tricks for Owen Donnellan and Ryan Barker.
- In total, 16 Seawolves registered at least one point in the win. Donnellan and Collin Williamson totaled six points apiece to lead all scorers.
- As a unit, Stony Brook finished 26-37 at X. Robbie Smith (12) and Declan Mitchell (11) both tallied double-digit face-off wins. Smith scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls, marking the second double-digit total for him this season.
- Stony Brook totaled 48 points on 70 shots offensively.
- Three goalies saw action for Stony Brook, with Tommy Wilk drawing the start and making four saves to nab his eighth win of the 2026 season. Matt Roughgarden and Joey Rice both made one save in action for the Seawolves.
