STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Led by a complete game gem from Jayci Finch, the Seawolves kept their postseason hopes alive on Friday as they evened up their series with Drexel at after winning 3-1. With the series tied at 1-1, whoever wins tomorrow's regular season finale will punch their ticket to the CAA Championships.
How It Happened
- Finch gutted out a tough first inning, throwing 38 pitches to work out of a bases-loaded jam unscathed.Â
- The Seawolves immediately backed her up in the bottom of the frame as an error by the third baseman on a Josie Alfano grounder allowed Ella Hayes to score all the way from second.
- After getting out of another jam in the second, Finch fired a 1-2-3 top of the third. Though the Dragons got to her in the fourth and plated their first run, she got the final batter to line out to short to strand three on base.
- It did not take long for Stony Brook to retake the lead as Karri Pritchard and Hayes singled to get on before coming around to score on a two-out opposite field double from Marissa Thalassinos.Â
- Following two quick innings in the fifth and the sixth, Finch went back out for the seventh and tossed her quickest inning of the day, needing just 10 pitches to retire the side.
Stats and Notes
- Finch's win was her 10th of the season and the 20th of her career.Â
- Pritchard, Alfano, and Hayes all knocked two hits today. Hayes scored two runs to bring her to 28 on the season.Â
