STUDENT-ATHLETE HONORS AND AWARDS

Six full-time advisors and a Learning Specialist comprise the Academic Success area of the Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Support Center at Stony Brook University. We offer the following support from a student-athlete’s recruiting visit to Graduation day:

  • Academic Meetings
  • Academic advising on NCAA eligibility & Graduation requirements
  • Study Hall
  • Tutorial Program
  • Learning Specialist
  • Travel Letters 
  • Progress Reports
  • Advanced Registration
  • Summer Bridge Program

The Learning Specialist in the Goldstein Family Student Athlete Development Center:

  • Provides additional academic assistance and coaching to cohort of student athletes with diagnosed and undiagnosed learning challenges through needs assessment in order to reduce academic risk factors.
  • Implements individualized academic support plans with the goal of supporting students to become independent learners. 
  • Serves as the bridge between learning within the classroom to foster the academic, career, social, and personal development of the student athlete cohort.
  • Works collaboratively as the liaison to the University’s Student Accessibility Support Center, ensuring students with temporary or long term disabilities get connected to support on campus
  • Develops programming offered to student-athletes centered around academic skill building, time management, goal setting, learning strategies, etc.
