Biography

2005: Threw 11.0 innings in nine appearances... struck out two batters in one inning of shutout work in a win over Fordham... did not allow a run and struck out two in an inning of work in a win over St. Francis... struck out a pair of batters in one inning in a win over St. Francis College.

2004: Appeared in 12 games as a freshman, three on the mound and nine in the field...took the field for his first collegiate start against St. Francis (N.Y.)...posted first hit as a pinch hitter at Louisiana-Lafayette...toed the rubber for first collegiate appearance against Appalachian State, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four batters.

High School: Attended Farmingdale High School in Farmingdale, N.Y....earned four varsity letters as a pitcher and first baseman for the Dalers...all-county in 2002 and 2003...posted a .423 batting average with seven home runs and a 5-2 record on the mound with 78 strikeouts as a senior...also played basketball.

Personal: Matthew R. Lyons...born July 3, 1985 in Farmingdale, N.Y....son of Cathie and Matthew Lyons...brother of Travis and Samantha...lists Roger Clemens as his favorite sports figure and the Houston Astros as his favorite team.
