Stony Brook Seawolves
Davis II - 2024 HS

Anthony Davis II

Under the program’s new head coach in Billy Cosh, Stony Brook football announced Anthony Davis II as the program’s next offensive coordinator on January 16, 2024.

In his first season running the offense, Davis helped lead one of the biggest turnarounds in the FCS in 2024 as the Seawolves went from 0-10 (0-8 CAA) in 2023, and a preseason pick to finish last in the conference, to an 8-4 (5-3 CAA) record. The season marked Stony Brook’s first winning season since 2018, its highest national ranking in six years at No. 16, and a finish at No. 24 in the final Stats Perform regular season poll.

Offensively, the Seawolves made major strides under Davis. The unit improved from 15.2 points per game in 2023 to 29.6 in 2024. Total offense jumped from 314.2 to 403.9 yards per game, including rushing growth from 104.1 to 170.3 yards per game and passing from 210.1 to 223.6 yards per game. The offense nearly doubled its touchdown total, going from 19 to 44. Stony Brook also set program marks for passing yards in a season, while posting its most rushing yards and rushing touchdowns since 2019, its most points since 2017, and its most total yards since 2019.
Davis helped guide multiple standout individual seasons, including Roland Dempster becoming the program’s first Walter Payton Award finalist after finishing third in the FCS and second in the CAA in total touchdowns. He also helped develop Cal Redman, Niko Papic, and Cole Bunicci into All-CAA selections.

The 2025 season continued that momentum as Stony Brook finished 6-6 overall and 4-4 in CAA play with a 5-1 home record, the program’s best mark at home since 2018. Under Davis’ direction, the Seawolves averaged 28.0 points per game (sixth in the CAA) and 385.0 yards per game (fourth in the conference). The offense ran 911 plays, the second most in the CAA, while ranking third in passing offense at 236.8 yards per game. Stony Brook also posted a 90 percent efficiency rate in the red zone. Davis helped develop Roland Dempster and Jayce Freeman into All-CAA selections, with both finishing among the top five in the conference in rushing and receiving yards, respectively.

Davis, who also serves as wide receivers coach, reunited with Cosh after previously working together at Western Michigan, where he served as running backs coach in 2023. There, he helped guide freshman Jalen Buckley to 1,003 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, finishing third in the MAC with 91.2 yards per game. Buckley earned MAC Freshman of the Year honors and College Football Network All-America recognition.

"Anthony is a great teacher and human being," Cosh said. "Being with him over the years, I've always respected how he works and how he communicates with his players and staff. He will do a great job with our offense and wide receivers."

Before Western Michigan, Davis served as running backs coach at Chattanooga (2022), Akron (2021), and VMI (2019-20) alongside Cosh. At Chattanooga, he coached FCS All-American Ailym Ford, who averaged 119.5 rushing yards per game with 12 touchdowns, ranking eighth nationally in rushing yards per game.

At VMI, Davis worked as both running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. In 2019, he helped Alex Ramsey lead the SoCon in rushing touchdowns with 15 while finishing third in the FCS with 1,355 rushing yards. In 2020, VMI reached the FCS playoffs, with Korey Bridy ranking among the league’s top 10 in rushing average and touchdowns.

Earlier in his career, Davis spent time on the strength and conditioning staff and as a graduate assistant from 2016-18, working with both wide receivers and defensive backs.

As a player, Davis competed at Indiana in 2013 and 2014 before transferring to Western Kentucky, where he was part of Conference USA championship teams and multiple bowl victories. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from Indiana in 2015, followed by a master’s in Organizational Leadership and an MBA from Western Kentucky.
