Rich Reichert

HONORS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT STONY BROOK
• Joined the Stony Brook staff prior to the 2013 season.
• From 2013-2016 he worked on the defensive staff working with the Cornerbacks.
• During the 2017 season he worked with both the Safeties and Cornerbacks
• In 2018 moved to and is currently coaching the Safeties and Rovers
• Helped guide the Seawolves’ defensive that ranked third in the FCS in total defense in 2017.
• The Stony Brook defense ranked first in the FCS with six defensive touchdowns in 2018.
• Helped the Seawolves to back-to-back FCS Playoff appearances in 2017 and 2018.

PLAYING CAREER
Reichert played linebacker during his time at America International College. In 2008 he helped lead AIC to a Northeast 10 Conference Championship and a birth into the Division II playoffs. In 2008 he led the team in tackles and earned second team All Conferences honors. In 2009 he was named team captain and the recipient of the Leonard J Bailey Memorial Award which is given to AIC’s Defensive MVP.  Reichert was also a member of the lacrosse team, winning the Unsung Hero award in 2010.
 
AT STONY BROOK
Reichert is a fixture among the defensive secondary at Stony Brook. In 2017 he guided the Safeties and Cornerbacks that included All-CAA Football selections Chris Cooper, Darin Peart and Travon Reid-Segure. In the 2018 season he mentored a young group of EJ Fineran, Augustus Contressa and Synceir Malone who combined to make over 170 total tackles, 20.5 TFLs, 5.5 Sacks and 4 Interceptions.
 
During those two seasons of 2017 and 2018, the Seawolves made back-to-back appearances in the FCS Playoffs.
 
In 2016 Reichert helped contribute to a defense finished ranked fifth in the FCS total defense. Cornerback Darin Peart received third team All-Conference as a junior.
 
The 2015 Season was a record year for the Stony Brook Defense. The defense finished ranked No. 1 overall in the FCS in total defense and passing yards allowed per game.
 
Reichert helped mentor 2014 first team All-CAA Football Cornerback Davonte Anderson and Stony Brook Defensive Rookie of the Year corner back Marvin Hart.
 
In his first year at Stony Brook Reichert worked with New York Jets Rookie Camp Invitee Corner Back Winston Longdon.
 
PRIOR TO STONY BROOK
Prior to arriving at Stony Brook Rich Reichert coached the defensive backs at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. During his first and only season he helped USMMA improve their record by two games (5-5) from the previous year. He helped mentor first team All Liberty League selection safety Tyler Washington and the league leader in interceptions cornerback Skyler Stone.
 
Reichert came to the United States Merchant Marine Academy after working with the Corner Backs and Rovers during his time at Western Michigan University as a Defensive Graduate Assistant. During his time in Kalamazoo Western Michigan he worked with All MAC Selection Johnnie Simon as the team went on to play in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
 
Reichert began his coaching career at Rutgers University as a member of the Player Development Staff. He worked with the development of players both on the field and in the classroom. In 2012 he worked closely with then offensive line coach Kyle Flood. Some of his other duties included opponent breakdowns, analysis and scouting reports.
 
NOTABLE STUDENT-ATHLETES UNDER COACH REICHERT
• S Chris Cooper (2015-17) – Cooper recorded 147 total tackles and four interceptions during his Stony Brook career. He earned second team All-CAA Football honors in 2017 and later signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts.
• S/CB Darin Peart (2014-2017) – Peart played in 44 games at Stony Brook and posted 135 total tackles that included 94 solo stops. During his career, he also recorded 5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and 19 passes defended.
• CB Travon Reid-Segure (2013-2017) – Reid-Segure played in 34 games during his four-year career as a Seawolf. He recorded 105 total tackles with 80 solo stops. He also collected seven interceptions.
• CB Davonte Anderson (2010-14) – Anderson completed his Stony Brook career second in career interceptions with 16. He was named first team All-CAA Football in 2014.
 
PERSONAL
A Long Island Native Rich Reichert played his high school football at Saint Anthony’s under his father (former St. Anthony’s High School Football Coach) Rich Reichert. While there he won two CHSFL AAA Championships.
