Trevor Warner joined the Stony Brook football staff as the safeties coach in February 2023. Warner came to Long Island after spending three seasons on staff at Ithaca College, including the last two where he served as the Bombers' defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach.
In Warner's two seasons as defensive coordinator at Ithaca, he helped lead the team to a 20-3 overall record and a 2022 Liberty League Championship. This past season, the Bombers posted a 12-1 overall record and went a perfect 6-0 en route to an NCAA Elite Eight appearances.
Over his two-year stint as Ithaca's defensive coordinator, Warner coordinated defensive units that have ranked amongst the nation's best. The Bombers ranked in the top 10 nationally in defensive pass efficiency (third), fumble recoveries (tied for third), takeaways forced (sixth), scoring defense (ninth), and take aways forced per game (10th).
Through that two-year stretch, Ithaca's defense was first in the Liberty League in every major statistical category, which included scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense, pass defense, defensive pass efficiency, and red zone defense.
A total of 14 defensive players earned All-Conference honors over the past two seasons, with eight being tabbed to the First Team, three on the Second Team, and three selected as Honorable Mentions. Of those 14 defensive players who claimed All-Conference accolades, six of them were defensive backs.
While at Ithaca, Warner coached Matt DeSimpliciis, who was named the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, DeSimpliciis claimed D3football.com Second Team All-America and First Team All-Region-2 honors under Warner's tutelage.
Before being promoted to defensive coordinator, Warner originally joined the Bombers' staff as the co-special teams coordinator/defensive backs coach in February 2019. During that time, he oversaw special teams units that produced Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year and All Liberty League First Teamer, kicker Nicholas Bahamonde.
Warner previously worked as a defensive quality control/defensive backs coach at the University of Pennsylvania during the 2018 season. He assisted a defense that ranked 14th nationally in sacks per game (3.0), 15th in red zone defense (.727), 16th in scoring defense (20.9), 16th in fourth down defense (.333), 19th in passing defense (185), and 29th in total defense (340.9 yds). He mentored true freshman cornerback Mohammed Diatike who was named a finalist for the STATS Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award.
Before UPenn, Warner coached at Concordia University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he was responsible for the defensive backs in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He also coordinated punt and field goal/extra point block units that blocked three punts out of 44 attempts which was good for sixth in the nation. His units held opposing kickers to a 40 percent conversion rate and blocked five kicks (23rd in the nation).
Warner played football at St. John's University in Minnesota from 2012-15. He was a four-year member of the team and started in 37 games and was a two-time team captain. He helped lead the team to two national playoff berths and one conference championship (2014).
Warner was a two-time All-Conference Honorable Mention and was named All-Conference First Team in 2015. Warner ended his playing career ranked sixth all-time at St. John's in interceptions with 13.
Warner earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in global business leadership from Saint John's in 2016 and is working towards his Masters of Science in exercise science from Concordia University, Saint Paul.
