Brian Miller joined Stony Brook in March of 2015 as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. Miller oversees all aspects of communications for the athletics department, including media relations, publications, television & radio and the official athletics department website, StonyBrookAthletics.com. He serves as the main contact for the Seawolves’ football and men's lacrosse teams. Miller, 46, came to Stony Brook after spending six seasons as the associate athletics communications director at Tulane University as the primary contact for men's basketball, men's tennis and bowling programs and the secondary contact for football.
In addition to his duties at Tulane during his time in New Orleans, Miller assisted in the hosting of the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four and the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Final Four. Before his time at Tulane, Miller spent a year and a half outside of athletics working at Louisiana Tech University as the director of marketing and communications for the College of Business as well as the director of marketing and communications for the Academy of Marketing Science.
Miller, a 23-year veteran of the sports information world, spent six years at Tulane, six years at LSU, three years at Auburn, three years at Louisiana Tech and a year at Florida Atlantic University.
He is worked with numerous sports over the years, including the two-time BCS National Champion LSU football teams, the five-time NCAA Final Four participant LSU women's basketball teams and the two-time NCAA Final Four participant Louisiana Tech women's basketball teams.
During his time at Louisiana Tech Miller served as the voice of the Lady Techsters basketball program as the play-by-play radio announcer. He also served as the color analyst for the women's basketball radio broadcasts during his six seasons at LSU.
Miller has promoted numerous student-athletes during national award campaigns, including LSU's two-time National Player of the Year Seimone Augustus and National Defensive Player of the Year Sylvia Fowles in basketball and multi-award winning Glenn Dorsey of the Tigers' football team. He also promoted Louisiana Tech wide receiver Troy Edwards during his 1998 Biletnikoff Award winning season.
Miller produced national award winning publications at LSU. His 2002-03 and 2007-08 LSU women's basketball media guides were both named "Best in the Nation" by the College Sports Information Director of America.
Miller graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, in 1996 with a degree in broadcast journalism and began his career in sports information at NU as a student assistant in charge of the publicity of the Huskies' baseball program.
Married to the former Lisa McEachern of Nashville, Georgia, the two have a blended family of five children (Priscilla Power, Richard Power, Trey Miller, Jenna Power and Cody Miller) and reside in Sound Beach, N.Y.
