Audrey Cunningham joined the staff in May of 2016.
In 2017-18, Cunningham helped guide the Seawolves to 18 total wins - the program's most victories since the 2013-14 season. Stony Brook won 10 of its final 13 regular-season contests, earning victories in five-straight conference games heading into the postseason tournament. The 2017-18 Seawolves set a new program record for most 3-pointers made in a single season (190), and largest single-game margin of victory (+51, vs. Farmingdale State).
The Seawolves featured a top-40 scoring defense in 2016-17 during Cunningham's first season with the program, as Stony Brook stifled opponents from beyond the arc, allowing the third-fewest three-pointers in the nation. Stony Brook held 20 of 30 opponents to 60 points or less during the campaign.
A former college basketball player at the University of New Haven, Cunningham spent two seasons on the staff at the University of Maryland, the last as the Director of Recruiting Operations.
The Terrapins enjoyed one of their best seasons in program history in 2015-16, winning a Big Ten title and finishing with a 31-4 overall record and no. 5 national ranking at season’s end. “
Cunningham’s role with the Terrapins featured leading all aspects of the recruiting process including official visits, evaluations, home visits, AAU/HS schedules, and travel arrangements. Under Cunningham’s lead, Maryland assembled the no. 1 ranked recruiting class in the country in 2016 according to espnW HoopGurlz Class Rankings, landing four five-star recruits, one four-star recruit and a three-star recruit.
“Coach Audrey comes from a perennial top 10 program and with that comes her winning mentality,” lauded McCombs. “She is a tireless worker who has learned from some of the best in the business. At Maryland, Audrey spearheaded recruiting efforts that landed some of the top-ranked classes in the country. Her energy and organization will be welcomed commodities and we are eager to get her on the court with our players.”
