Cherise Beynon

Cherise Beynon joined the Stony Brook staff as the Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Operations in June 2023. Beynon came to Stony Brook after previously serving as a graduate assistant at Loyola Marymount University.  
  
Beynon spent the two seasons at LMU where she was a graduate assistant on the women’s basketball staff and earned her master’s degree in education. During her first season at LMU, she helped guide the Lions to a WCC Tournament quarterfinals appearance in 2022.
 
Prior to her time at LMU, Beynon spent three years playing professional basketball overseas. She played in Prague, Czech Republic for BLK Slavia (2019), in Hesperange, Luxembourg for Telstar (2019), and in Saarlouis, Germany for the Royals (2019-20). 
 
Beynon spent her collegiate career as the starting point guard at the University of New Mexico (UNM). She played and started every game for the Lobos all four years while she was there. Beynon led the team in assists and steals. She led the Mountain West Conference in assists and assists per game her junior and senior seasons.  
 
Beynon ranks top 10 all-time in assists (second), rebounds, points, and steals (second). She holds the record for assists in a game (15), single-season assist record (211) and points in a game (41) at New Mexico. Beynon notched UNM’s first triple-double since 1979 during her junior season, where she went on to record four triple-doubles.
 
Over the course of her career, she made the All-Mountain West Freshman Team (2014-15), three-straight All-Mountain West First Teams (2015-18), and two-straight Mountain West All-Defensive Teams (2016-18). Beynon was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team both her junior and senior seasons, where she then went on to win the National Academic All-American of the Year, the first person to do so in Lobo history. She was also named Academic All-Mountain West (2016-17, 2017-18) and MW Scholar-Athlete (2016-17, 2017-18).
 
Beynon graduated from New Mexico in 2018 with her bachelor’s degree in business administration.
