Stony Brook Seawolves
Martinez 18

Sarah Martinez

Sarah Martinez joined the Stony Brook coaching staff on Jan. 27, 2016.

In her first season at Stony Brook, Martinez helped guide the Seawolves to a third-place finish in the America East, earning their first conference playoff appearance since the 2013 season. The team notched a Division-I era six-game winning streak in league play and eight shutouts on the season. The 2016 America East Coaching Staff of the Year saw six student-athletes earn all-conference honors, as two were named to the first team.

Martinez then guided Stony Brook to a 11-11 (4-4 AE) mark in 2017, topping Vermont, 2-1, in the 2017 America East Women’s Soccer Championship at LaValle Stadium to earn the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012. Stony Brook won four games in the non-conference portion of its 2017 schedule – the most victories in non-conference action for the program since the 2013 season. The Seawolves' coaching staff saw five student-athletes take home all-conference honors, including goalkeeper Sofia Manner being named America East Rookie of the Year

Martinez played at the University of Washington, where she led the Huskies to three NCAA Tournament appearances and was named team captain and Offensive Team MVP in her junior and senior seasons. She was named to the All-Pac 12 second team as a senior and won the University of Washington Athletic Department’s Most Inspirational Female Athlete Award twice.

After her playing career, Martinez spent four seasons on the Huskies’ coaching staff, serving as the Director of Soccer Operations for the men’s and women’s programs.

In addition to her work with the Huskies’ program, Martinez also served as a head coach for the Seattle United Soccer Club Girls U15 and U17 teams and was a co-founder of the Extra Time College ID Showcase Camp.

Martinez graduated from the University of Washington in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, then earned a Master of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington in 2013.
