Cara Cohen

Cara Cohen is a registered dietitian and public health nutrition programs coordinator in Stony Brook Medicine’s Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine’s Nutrition Division.  She joined Stony Brook Athletics in 2019 to deliver nutrition counseling for sports performance.

Montesano received her bachelor of science degree in exercise science from Salisbury University along with becoming certified as an exercise physiologist through The American College of Sports Medicine.  She furthered her education by completing her Dietetic Internship and Masters in Nutrition from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Cohen is currently coordinating a New York State Department of Health funded grant, Creating Healthy Schools and Communities, with the goal of increasing access to healthy, affordable foods in high-needs communities in an effort to reduce chronic disease. She also manages the Stony Brook Heights Rooftop Farm at Stony Brook Medicine and supervises SBU Dietetic Interns.  Her areas of interest include community health and sports nutrition.  

In addition to Montesano being a registered dietitian, she also is certified exercise physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine, Certified Lactation Counselor, a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition practice group.
