Tyreek McIntosh has given countless hours as a student manager with the Stony Brook women's volleyball team.
And McIntosh has been recognized for that contribution with a pair of honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association — the Diversity Award and the Coaches 4 Coaches scholarship.
The AVCA Diversity Awards Program is a platform for showcasing leaders that positively impact the sport of volleyball every day.
The Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship was conceived as a way to engage young coaches and recent college graduates who are interested in pursuing a volleyball coaching position and give them a head start in their coaching careers. Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to interact with successful coaches from all levels and explore the networking and educational opportunities.
McIntosh, a double-major in sociology and psychology, also is president of the men's volleyball club team on campus and an administrator for the Residential Safety Program.
Volleyball has been a part of McIntosh's life since he was seven or eight. A Brooklyn native, he immersed himself in the sport growing up by joining a club team.
