Tyreek McIntosh has given countless hours to the Stony Brook volleyball team as a student manager, graduate assistant and then volunteer assistant coach during her time on Long Island.
McIntosh began her career with the Seawolves as a student manager in 2017 and progressed to a graduate assistant for the team. Now as a volunteer assistant coach, McIntosh oversees the program’s student managers and practice players as well as assists with daily operations for the program.
She has been recognized for that contribution with a pair of honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association — the Diversity Award and the Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship in 2021. The AVCA Diversity Awards Program is a platform for showcasing leaders that positively impact the sport of volleyball every day. The Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship was conceived to engage young coaches and recent college graduates who are interested in pursuing a volleyball coaching position and give them a head start in their coaching careers. Scholarship recipients can interact with successful coaches from all levels and explore the networking and educational opportunities.
Over her time with the program, the Seawolves have accumulated over 92 wins, two America East Championships, two trips to the CAA Tournament and multiple All-Conference players such as Torri Henry, Leoni Kunz, Kali Moore, McKyla Brooks, and LeAnne Sakowicz.
As a student at Stony Brook, McIntosh was the president of the Stony Brook University Volleyball Club program during her time as an undergrad (2017-22) and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology in December 2020, followed by obtaining her Master’s in Higher Education Administration in December 2022.
Currently, McIntosh works as an Assistant Director for Campus Residences Safety and Support Services on campus and resides in Brooklyn, N.Y. She still competes regularly in USAV and NAGVA tournaments across the country.
