Ed Murillo put the Seawolves ahead to stay with a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the second and Chris Flinn went the distance on the mound for his seventh win as Stony Brook defeated New York Tech, 10-2. It was the eighth straight win for the Seawolves (21-5) while Tech fell to 7-13-1 on the season.
The Bears struck first as Tom Merkle homered to left field to lead off the second inning. Th Seawolves answered in the bottom of the inning as Craig Ansman and Phil Bouchard singled. Lee Lipschutz was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Murillo took the first pitch over the left field wall for his second homerun of the year.
Tech closed to 4-2 in the third on Brian Goldberg's sacrifice fly.
Flinn (7-1) won for the sixth straight time, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out eight batters and walking three.
Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain. The two teams are scheduled to meet at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday in a doubleheader.
