Senior Craig Ansman hit a pair of homeruns and Chris Flinn went the distance in game one, striking out nine batters as the Seawolves swept Albany in a baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon, 11-1 and 10-8. Stony Brook (15-5) broke Albany's (6-10-1) five-game winning streak while the teams split the weekend four-game series, 2-2.
The Seawolves struck early in game one, getting three runs in the first inning. Matt Salmon, Chris Manna and Alex Trezza all collected RBI's in the inning. Ansman's double down the right field line scored CJ Lutz in the third inning and Trezza collected his second sacrifice fly RBI of the day to give the Seawolves a 5-0 lead.
Albany struck for its only run in the fifth inning on Mike Grasso's single to right. In the bottom of the inning, Ansman homered to lead off and Gregg Foster hit his second grand slam during the week as the Seawolves built a 10-1 advantage. Flinn (5-1) gave up just three hits while striking out nine in the game.
In game two, Ed Murillo tripled down the right field line in the second inning, scoring two runners and Foster and Trezza each had sacrifice RBI's to stake the Pack to a 4-0 advantage. Albany used a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to close to within 4-2. Eddie Scott reached on an error and came around to score on Steve Checksfield's sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Jeff Rossiter singled to open the inning and scored on a wild throw to first base by Ansman that landed in right field.
However, Ansman made up for it in the bottom of the inning, hitting his seventh homerun of the season - a two-run blast to right field. Two batters later, Trezza homered to left field to score two more runs and the Seawolves led, 10-2.
Albany threatened in the seventh, scoring two runs before Scott Lizza hit a grand slam to left field off reliever Joe Costanzo to close the gap to 10-8. Costanzo retired the last two batters he faced. Lee Reynolds (3-1) got the win on the mound, striking out seven batters while allowing five earned runs and five hits.
