Women's Soccer To Host Drexel On Friday

Oct. 25, 2001

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook women's soccer will go after its third straight win at home against Drexel on Friday. Kick-off is 12:00 p.m.

THE OPPONENT: Drexel enters the game sporting a 5-9-2 mark, 2-4-2 in conference play. The Dragons are unbeaten in their last two outings having tied Delaware 1-1 on Sunday after a 2-1 win over Towson on Friday.

SEAWOLVES ROLLING: After waiting 12 games to get their first win, the Seawolves have now won three of their last four as they head toward the final week of the season. With an outside shot at still qualifying for the America East playoffs, this weekend's games against Drexel and Hofstra are must wins if Stony Brook has any hopes of still moving up into the top six.

USING YOUR HEAD: Kristin Lynch was a one-person wrecking crew against Columbia on Tuesday afternoon. The senior defender scored two goals, including the game-winner, on headers off corner kicks. On basically the same exact play, Lynch headed home Kerri McCabe corner kicks in the 16th and 31st minutes to provide SB with the win. Two days earlier, she scored her first goal of the season against Northeastern, heading home a cross from Leanna Yust. Lynch has scored 10 career goals, seven of them have come on corner kick headers. In 1999, all five of her goals were scored in that fashion.

ON DECK: Stony Brook resumes conference play today with a home match against Drexel. The Dragons are one point ahead of the Seawolves in the America East standings and a win today is crucial for Stony Brook's postseason hopes.

SERIES RECORDS: This is the first meeting ever between Drexel and Stony Brook.

FINDING THE NET: Stony Brook scored 10 goals in its first 13 games but have changed all that in its last three outings. In that stretch, SB has scored eight goals and gone 2-1 to help them win three of their last four games.

LENDING A HAND: Kerri McCabe got into the scoring column in a different way on Tuesday --- delivering assists. She assisted on both of Kristin Lynch's goals on corner kicks, serving them into the penalty area where Lynch headed them home. She now leads the team in scoring with eight points.

HOME COOKING: Stony Brook finally broke through on its home field with its win over Columbia on Tuesday. Having lost four straight one-goal decisions prior to Tuesday, SB earned is first home win of the year with the 2-1 win over Columbia. Stony Brook has now beaten the Lions two years in a row.

CLOSE CALLS: Chances are when Stony Brook takes the field, it will be a close game. Eight of SB's 15 games have been decided by one goal with the Seawolves going 2-6 in such games. Two of other seven outings resulted in ties.

WELCOME PARENTS: Today the Stony Brook women's soccer program recognizes the parents of the 2001-02 Seawolves. On behalf of the Division of Athletics, coach Ryan and her staff would like to thank all of the parents for their support and dedication to SB women's soccer.

OOPS, SHE DID IT AGAIN: Defender Brittany Norwood has been outstanding all season long for the Seawolves. An All-Conference candidate, Norwood has been the lynchpin of the Stony Brook defense this season.

PLAYOFF CHANCES: The top six teams in the America East make the postseason tournament. With three conference games remaining, the Seawolves have an outside shot of qualifying for postseason play should they win out. That would give them 16 points and give them a chance, depending on other results, on making the top six.
