Final Stats
Hempstead, NY -
Marissa Pistone put home a cross from teammate Bridget Penta in the 104th minute as Hofstra (8-5-2, 5-3-2 AE) erased a 2-1 deficit to post a 3-2 overime victory over Stony Brook (4-11-2, 3-6-1, AE) Sunday afternoon in women's soccer.
Trailing 2-1 with 8:19 to go, Hofstra caught a break when a Stony Book player was whistled for a hand ball inside its own box to give the Pride a penalty kick. Dolores Deasley put home the kick, knotting the score and forcing the overtime stanza.
Deasley gave the Pride a 1-0 lead with a goal just six minutes in.
The score remained that way until the second half when Sarah Greenberg took a Jessica Enes rebound and tapped it in the net to tie the game in the 50th minute. Just eleven minutes later, Stony Brook's Lauren Canino made it 2-1 as she took a chip pass from Greenberg and put it into the net
Lori Nelson made eight saves in the game as the Pride outshot Stony Brook, 23-13.
The crosstown rivalry was all of that as the teams combined for 36 fouls and a pair of yellow cards.
