Women's Soccer Looks To Topple Hartford Today

Oct. 4, 2001

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook returns to University Field for the first time since the home opener on August 31. The Seawolves have played six straight games on the road, going 0-4-2 in that stretch.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Hartford enters the week with a 5-2 overall record, 2-0 in America East action. The Hawks knocked off Dartmouth by the score of 2-0 last Wednesday afternoon and earned a 1-0 win over Yale on Tuesday. Jeannette Akerlund leads the attack for Hartford with four goals and two assists, ranking second in the America East in points per game at a 1.57 clip. She also ranks third in individual goals. Anne-Lise Nilssen boasts a 1.10 GAA in net for UH.

LOOKING FOR THE FIRST: Stony Brook seeks its first win of the season today against the Hawks. The Seawolves have flirted with victory on two occasions, including last Saturday's 1-1 tie at Cornell.

HOME SWEET HOME: Stony Brook returns home today for the first time in 34 days, the longest stretch of time between home games in the program's history, eclipsing the old mark of 30 days set in 1986. During this stretch away from home, the Seawolves played six straight on the road which falls one short of the program's record of seven straight road games that was also set in 1986.

BACKDROP: Stony Brook returns home this week for a pair of games against America East opponents, Hartford and Vermont, looking for its first win of the season.

SERIES RECORD: Hartford holds a 2-0 series edge in a series that has been dormant since 1990. That year, the Hawks earned a 3-0 win over SB.

SPECIAL K: Krisha Zagura got in on the offensive act last Saturday on the road at Cornell. Trailing 1-0 late in the game, Zagura leveled the game at one with a beautiful volley off a Brittany Norwood cross. It was Zagura's first goal of the season.

LENDING A HAND: Brittany Norwood notched her second assist of the season on Saturday against Cornell. She has Stony Brook's only two assists this season.

A CHANCE TO MOVE UP: Despite being winless in conference play, only three points separate seven teams in the America East. A win today would vault SB into a tie with New Hampshire and Northeastern.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: After this weekend, the Seawolves hit the road for three straight games. They will take on Army on Monday night before traveling to Towson and Delaware next weekend for a pair of pivotal conference matchups. Stony Brook plays a record 12 road games this year.

CONFERENCE STUFF: Stony Brook currently ranks 10th in the conference . . . Boston University remains in first place . . . Brittany Campbell of Delaware won Player of the Week honors after a two-goal effort in the Blue Hens' 3-1 victory over Lehigh. . . . Northeastern's Liz Dyjack earned Rookie of the Week accolades with a goal and three assists in three games last week.

NEWS AND NOTES: The 0-5-2 start marks the longest stretch without a victory to begin a season in the history of the program . . .
