Box Score
Brooklyn, NY -
Ed Kull's two-out, two-run single in the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and Stony Brook held on for a 4-3 victory over LIU-Brooklyn Wednesday afternoon. It was the fourth win in five games for the Seawolves, who improved to 5-3.
LIU struck for an unearned run in the second inning to take the early lead. But the Seawolves came right back with a pair in the fourth. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Ed Murillo sacrificed home Matt Blumberg with a fly ball to center and Mike Russo grounded out to shortstop, scoring Matt Blumberg.
In the seventh, starting pitcher Chris Flinn got in a bit of trouble. He allowed a leadoff triple to Mike Garbowski and Mike Thompson plated him two batters later with a double to left center.
LIU threatened to tie the score in the ninth off reliever Kevin Willi. With two out, Chris Inserra and Mike Thompson both walked. Matt Early followed with a double to left, scoring Inserra and bringing the winning run to the plate. However, Willi got Jim Marshall to fly out to right field to end the game as Willi earned his first save of the season.
Flinn pitched eight innings, allowing one earned run while striking out 12 and walking five.
The Seawolves will head to Homestead, FL for a nine-game set at the Homestead Challenge beginning Saturday.
