Whitaker's Two-Run Single Helps Pack Drop Hofstra

Stony Brook, NY -- - Dwayne Whitaker's two-out single to right field scored two runs and broke a 5-5 tie and Stony Brook (20-13) went on to defeat Hofstra (15-15), 10-5, Tuesday afternoon at Seawolves Field. Stony Brook has now won four of the last five meetings between the two teams.

With two outs in the seventh and runners at second and third, Whitaker banged a single through the right side of the infield, scoring Alex Trezza and Rich Graham. The runs gave Stony Brook the lead for good at 7-5.

The Pride struck early against Stony Brook starter Jason Brook, getting two runs in the first inning. Ed Cook led off with a single and Jason Guminitz walked. Kevin Reinking's double to left center brought home Cook and Danny Torres followed with a ground out to second to plate Guminitz.

The Seawolves struck for three in the third inning. Graham tripled with one out and scored on Garrett Renner's double. George Kearnes ripped a double down the left field line to bring home Renner and scored on a fielding error by Hofstra third baseman Brian Hillman.

Stony Brook built a 5-3 advantage on homeruns by Lee Lipschutz in the fourth and Mike Russo in the sixth.

Hofstra tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh, scoring a pair of unearned runs. Rodriguez and Guminitz reached to open the inning and advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Reinking brought home Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly to center field. Guminitz scored on the second passed ball in the inning.

The Seawolves secured the win with three runs in the eighth inning on RBI's from Alex Trezza and Kearnes.

Stony Brook's Dave Mischo (1-0) got the win as he worked three innings, allowed just two hits and two unearned runs.
