Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team (19-13), which has won nine of its last 10 games, earned its fourth sweep of the season as the Seawolves defeated Central Connecticut 4-2 and 10-0 in five innings. The Blue Devils fall to 7-29 on the year.

In game one, Stony Brook's Tricia Lipareli became the all-time hits leader in school history with a base hit to left field in the fifth inning. Lipareli had three hits on the day for a career total of 153. The Seawolves fell behind 2-0 in the fourth as two costly errors allowed the Blue Devils to break the game open. But Stony Brook cut the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning, when Cass Broadwater's ground-out drove in Tory Menchise. Lipareli scored the tying run in the fifth and Menchise plated the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. SBU added a run in the sixth for the final 4-2 score.

Stephanie Poetzsch earned her 12th win (12-6), allowing five hits and no earned runs while striking out six. At the plate, it was Sam Foronjy leading the way with a perfect 3-for-3 outing, while Menchise went 2-for-3.

Stony Brook's bats came alive in the second game, as three Seawolves cranked homeruns and SBU coasted to a 10-0 win in five innings, due to the NCAA run rule. Lipareli's shot over the left-center fence gave the Seawolves the early lead and provided a peek at things to come. Inning three saw Amanda Staschuk earn her first collegiate homerun, whose two-run dinger extended the lead to 5-0. Two more runs in the fourth gave SBU an insurmountable 7-0 lead, but the offensive show wasn't over. With two outs in the fifth and runners at first and second, Foronjy crushed a shot, also over the left field fence, that ended the game. Stony Brook's 10-0 win is the third-most lopsided of the season.

Lindsey DeLaRosa (7-7) was credited with her fifth straight win, giving up just two hits and walking none. Several Seawolves had outstanding performances at the plate. Staschuk went 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Foronjy enjoyed a 2-for-3 effort with four RBI. Menchise was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Seawolves collected an impressive 24 hits on the afternoon while the Blue Devils managed just seven.

Stony Brook returns to action on Wednesday when the Seawolves travel to face Sacred Heart. The doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m.
